Lantau is a great destination for a family day out. For an attractions-packed trip, join the adventures of VR 360 before embarking on a spectacular virtual Lantau tour in Motion 360. Alternatively, look for Chinese Pink Dolphins in Tai O for an unforgettable excursion.
Taste Hunt
Food is paramount to many of us. Now that you are coming to Lantau, you must explore not only the unique wildlife of Hong Kong but also sample the diversity of good food in store. The delicacies at Ngong Ping Village and the local specialties of Tai O are both here to blow your taste buds away!
Culture & Heritage
Lantau is a historically and culturally rich island. Take a walking tour around the attractions of Lantau, travel the waterways of Tai O to explore the unique fishing village lifestyle, or sample the local delicacies, and you will experience the colourful culture of Lantau.
Start your Adventure
From the Tung Chung Cable Car Terminal, start your amazing Lantau journey with a cable car ride. Enjoy the 360-degree views and quality time with your family. Don’t forget to take a family picture before you board. Printed pictures will be ready for your pick up when you reach the Ngong Ping terminal. They make a great keepsake for your trip.
Ngong Ping Village has a variety of shops for a lovely walking tour. The antiquity, architecture and landscaped designs of the village make it the perfect backdrop for picturing your children.
The mysterious spaceship in Motion 360 takes you on a virtual tour around Lantau from different angles. You may be flying over the Big Buddha and Wisdom Path, or diving into the waters where you can see Chinese Pink Dolphins.
As you proceed to the Big Buddha, you will walk pass Ngong Ping Piazza, where you can appreciate Chinese-style architectures and the majestic Big Buddha. Very often, you will see cattle residing in Ngong Ping walking around. Children can say hi to them when they’re in sight! (Note: For your safety, please keep a distance from the cattle. Do not feed or disturb them!)
Walking from Ngong Ping Village towards the mountainous side, you will see the magnificent Big Buddha - the world’s second largest outdoor bronze seated Buddha statue, sitting atop Muk Yue Shan in Ngong Ping. The majestic statue was built over 12 years and it depicts the sitting posture of Siddhartha Gautama when he was enlightened under the Bodhi Tree. If there are children or elders in your company, the 268 stair steps would be rather strenuous. Consider taking a picture with the majestic statue from “Di Tan” (Altar of Earth) and proceed to your next stop.
Return to Ngong Ping Village for lunch. You will find a wide selection of good food here: Chinese restaurant, cha chaan teng (Hong Kong style tea diner), Japanese ramen and sushi, Taiwanese noodles, Turkish kebabs and other cuisines. This is a great place to take a break.
Return to Tung Chung on Ngong Ping Cable Car and conclude your day out with the stunning panorama of Lantau.
