Gai See Teng
Chinese fever vine (Paederia foetida) is a Chinese herb with efficacy in promoting blood circulation, pain relief and even drive away evil spirit. Cha Guo made with the herb is a traditional Hakka snack. Yan Koo Chaquo is a 70-year-old establishment in Tai O. Yan Koo, the founder, is a native of Hakka. In addition to Cha Guo with a variety of fillings, Gai See Teng is also one of the signature snacks.
While the dark skin of Gai See Teng may not look very appetising, the variety is one of the most difficult to master amongst all Cha Guo. It has a unique bitter-sweet taste and a chewy texture that differ from other traditional snacks.
