Shek Pik Reservoir
To cope with the rapid rise in population, the Government began constructing Shek Pik Reservoir in 1959 as a way to solve the water problem. The reservoir is located in Lantau South Country Park. Triangular in shape, the reservoir stores 25 million cubic metres of water, only second to High Island Reservoir and Plover Cove Reservoir. An ancient stone inscription from the Bronze Age can be seen at the eastern foot of the hill. From the dam, walk along the road to Shek Pik Prison for about 10 minutes to reach the reservoir. Clear direction signs are there to guide you.
Shek Pik Reservoir is the starting point of the Section 9 of Lantau Trail. Famous for being scenic and tranquil, it is a popular attraction for a day out in nature. Visitors can escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, overlook the back of the Big Buddha and relax.
