Shui Hau
About 35 minutes away from Ngong Ping Village, Shui Hau is a popular summer destination in Lantau. As the biggest mud-flat on Lantau Island, Shui Hau is designated as a Marine Reserve, renowned as a clam diggers’ heaven, this is where you can rent the gear from village shops for your clamming adventure when the tide recedes.
The vast mudflat offers more than clams. When the tide goes down, Hong Kong’s very own “mirror of the sky” appears right here. Because of wave motion, the mudflat is usually left with ripple like marks, making the place the perfect natural subject for photo enthusiasts.
When the night falls, Shui Hau emits a completely different aura. As the environment is dark and there is very little light pollution, Shui Hau is a perfect spot for stargazing and camping. The river stream, hills and tree views make Shui Hau very ideal for taking pictures.
