Ma Wan Chung Fishing Village
Ma Wan Chung is located by Tung Chung Bay, parallel to the ropeway of Ngong Ping Cable Car. It has been a settlement since 618 – 960 AD and subsequently developed into a fishing village, where rice, garlic, spring onions, crabs and fish were in abundance.
Scenic and tranquil, Ma Wan Chung has preserved the traditions of a fishing village, and is a great place for a walk, for watching sunset and for appreciating the sea. The occasional sampan or fishing net in the area would remind you of the charm of an old fishing village.
Your Ma Wan Chung visit will not be complete without a meal that comprises local seafood: Tung Chung clams, blue crabs, various fishes and seawater eels are not to be missed. Visitors are especially drawn to early seafood dinners here, as they could enjoy good food and the beautiful backdrop, with cable car cabins travelling back and forth at sunset.
